Waveland - Hazel E. Machledt, 88, formerly of Waveland and a resident of West Minister Village at Greenwood died Thursday. She was a retired Waveland Elementary School teacher. She was a member of the Waveland Covenant United Methodist Church, Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority of Crawfordsville and a 50-year-member of the Dorothy Q Chapter DAR at Crawfordsville. She was a charter member of Waveland Eastern Star #539 and Waveland Department Club. She was a graduate of Shortridge HS at Indianapolis. She attended Indiana University and was a graduate of Indiana State University. She was born August 16, 1887, a daughter of George W. and Sarah Farrow Hendrix of Cloverdale. She married Harry C. Machledt in Tangier June 25, 1913. She and her husband started the Machledt Funeral Services at Waveland in 1915. Survivors are son, Dr. John Machledt of Greenwood; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Gladys Machledt of Greenwood and Mrs. Jeanette Machledt of West Lebanon, a sister, Mrs. Edistina Rutharford of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son and two sisters. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Machledt & Servies Funeral Home at Waveland with Rev. Steven Fuchs officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery at Montezuma. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening. kbz
